Introduction and Application of Foam Silicone Dressing

The international practice guideline of pressure injuries has defined the pressure injuries: Local damages to the skin or subcutaneous tissue caused by pressure or a combination of pressure and shear force usually occur at the bony protuberance and might also be associated with iatrogenic devices. This lesion may be intact skin or an open wound, which might also has pain. The tolerance of soft tissue to pressure and shear force may also be affected by micro-climate, nutrition, tissue perfusion, comorbidities and the condition of soft tissue. Pressure injuries can be divided into stage Ⅰ~Ⅳ pressure injuries, non-staged pressure injuries, and deep tissue pressure injuries.

Ⅰ. The guideline recommends that different dressings should be used according to the clinical condition of pressure injuries

1. For non-infected stage Ⅱ pressure injuries, it should use hydrocolloid dressings, hydrogel dressings, polymer dressings;

2. Hydrogel dressings should be used for pressure injuries that are not infected in stage Ⅲ and stage Ⅳ;

3. For stage Ⅲ and stage Ⅳ pressure injuries with moderate exudation, it should use calcium alginate dressings;

4. For stage Ⅱ pressure injuries with moderate or severe exudation and pressure injuries with large areas, it should use foam dressing products like foam silicone dressings.

Ⅱ. Foam silicone dressings are one of the most commonly used dressings for exudation management

Because it's easy to use and it has high comfort level for patients, patients are prone to accept it. Foam silicone dressings are commonly used for superficial wounds, and there are no obvious limitations on the type of wounds, and can be used for a variety of wounds, including lower extremity ulcers (which can be combined with pressure treatment), pressure ulcers, traumatic wounds, ostomies and tracheostomies, minor burns, skin grafts, donor areas, diabetic foot ulcers, and other exudative wounds.

The polyurethane foam dressing developed by Foshan United Medical Technologies Ltd. has a delicate and soft texture, uniform aperture distribution and high absorbability, which can absorb a large amount of wound secretions, provide the best moist environment for the wound surface and promote the wound healing. It is not bonded to the wound surface and does not adhere to the wound, and there is no pain when it is replaced; It is soft and has good compliance, and also has the pads function. Products are divided into four series: ordinary type, compound type, self-adhesive type and self-adhesive silicone type. You could also buy medical dressing supplies online, which is quite convenient and safe.

Ⅲ. Characteristics of different foam silicone dressing products

The ordinary polyurethane foam silicone dressing is composed of unique polyurethane foam, which is suitable for various exudative wounds. Polyurethane foam has a delicate and soft texture, uniform aperture distribution and high absorbability, which can absorb a large amount of wound secretions, provide the best moist environment for the wound surface and promote the wound healing. It is not bonded to the wound surface and does not adhere to the wound, and there is no pain when it is replaced; It is soft and has good compliance, and also has the pads function.

Compound polyurethane foam silicone dressings add polyurethane film protective layer on the basis of the ordinary type, which effectively block the invasion and growth of microorganisms.

Self-adhesive polyurethane foam silicone dressings add polyurethane film with adhesive on the basis of the ordinary type, which can be easily fixed on the wound during using, and no outer dressing is required for the secondary fixation. Self-adhesive silicone polyurethane foam silicone dressings add a perforated silicone layer on the basis of the self-adhesive type, it is gentler, more skin friendly, and easy to be removed and there is no pain when replacing it.
