What Are the Dressing Methods of Medical Bandages?

Medical bandages are materials used to fix and protect surgical or injured parts, and are necessary for surgical operations. The simplest is a single bandage, made of gauze or cotton, applied to the limbs, tail, head, and chest and abdomen. Compound bandages are bandages of various shapes made according to their parts and shapes. The material is double-layer cotton cloth, and cotton of different thicknesses can be sandwiched between them. There are cloth strips around them for knotting and fixing, such as eye bandages, back and waist and chest bandages, abdominal bandages and scabbard bandages, etc. Special bandages are mostly used for fixation of limbs and joints. The dressing method of the home medical product bandage is as follows.

1. Bandage ring wrapping method for home medical supplies

It is used for small or cylindrical parts of limbs, such as hands, feet, wrists and foreheads, and is also used at the beginning of various dressings. Roll the bandage upwards, hold it with the right hand, unfold the bandage about 8cm, fix the head end of the bandage with the left thumb to the part to be bandaged, and wrap the part in a continuous loop with the right hand.

2. Spiral wrapping method of bandages for household medical supplies

For parts with approximately equal circumferences, such as upper arms, fingers, etc. From the distal end, first wrap two rolls in a ring shape, and then wrap them in a 30° angle spiral to the proximal end. Each roll overlaps the previous roll by 2/3, and the end is fixed with tape. The weekly bandages do not cover each other in the absence of bandages in first aid or temporarily immobilize the splint, which is called snake dressing.

3. Spiral reflex wrapping method of bandages for household medical supplies

For parts with different circumferences, such as forearms, calves, thighs, etc., start with a two-week ring bandage, then a spiral bandage, and then press the middle of the top of the tape with the thumb of one hand, and reverse the tape from this point with the other hand. Fold down to cover 1/3 or 2/3 of the previous week. Each reflexion must be neatly arranged in a straight line, but each reflexion should not be at the wound and bony prominence.

4. "8"-shaped bandage method of bandages for household medical supplies

It is used for bandaging and fixation of clavicle fractures in shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle, and other joints. Take the elbow joint as an example, first wrap 2 rolls in the middle of the joint, and wrap the bandage for home medical supplies first to the top of the joint, then to the lower part of the joint through the flexion side, and then to the upper part of the joint through the back of the limb to the flexion side of the limb. Repeat this, wrapping up and down the joint continuously in the shape of an "8", each roll overlapping the previous roll by 2/3, and finally wrapping 2 rolls in a circular shape above the joint, and fixing it with tape.

5. Reverse wrapping method of bandages for household medical supplies

For the top of the head, finger tips and limb stumps, it is a series of left and right or front and rear reverse bandages. After covering all the bandaged parts, make a ring bandage for two weeks.

Bandages for household medical supplies are gauze tapes for dressing wounds or affected areas. They are common medical supplies. There are many different types and dressing methods. It is necessary to choose the appropriate type and dressing method according to the injured part.
